About Featured Expert: Carbon Clean

Carbon Clean develops carbon-capture technologies for cement, steel, refining, energy-from-waste and other emissions-intensive industries. Its work spans solvent chemistry, process design, modular equipment and industrial integration, with particular attention to the practical constraints that can make carbon capture difficult to deploy at existing plants.

The company’s technology is built around proprietary solvents used to separate carbon dioxide from industrial flue gases and process emissions. That chemistry is paired with system design intended to reduce energy demand, equipment size and installation complexity across a range of operating conditions. Carbon Clean has expanded this work into Carbon Clean - Featured Expert Logo - Industrial Sustainability Monthlymodular and semi-modular capture systems for commercial industrial use. Its CaptureX platform combines solvent-based capture with packaged process equipment and heat-integration engineering, while its CycloneCC architecture uses rotating packed beds in place of the large columns found in more conventional systems. The result is a more compact configuration that can be prefabricated and installed within tighter plant footprints.

This technology is especially relevant in industries where space, downtime and process disruption can present major barriers to deployment. To address these needs, Carbon Clean’s systems are being developed for different emissions volumes and carbon-dioxide concentrations, allowing capacity to be matched more closely to site requirements. The company has also continued commercial-scale testing of its columnless C1 design as part of its broader work to simplify capture-system deployment.

Its engineering work is supported by operating data from multiple industrial environments, including cement, steel, refining and energy-from-waste facilities. Carbon Clean reports more than 2.9 million operating hours across its deployed technologies, providing a substantial base of field experience across different gas compositions and plant conditions.

Founded in India in 2009 and headquartered in London, Carbon Clean also maintains operations in India, the United States and Canada. Its expertise spans solvent development, carbon-capture process design, rotating packed-bed systems, modularization, heat integration and industrial project engineering.
