Svante designs and manufactures solid-sorbent carbon-capture technologies for industrial emissions and direct air capture. Its work combines advanced materials, structured filters, rotary contactor systems and modular process engineering for use across cement, steel, hydrogen, pulp and paper, waste-to-energy and other emissions-intensive industries.

The company’s technology is built around solid sorbents coated onto thin laminate sheets and assembled into structured adsorption filters. These materials include metal-organic Svante - Featured Expert Logo - Industrial Sustainability Monthlyframeworks and other engineered sorbents selected for different carbon-dioxide concentrations and operating conditions. The filters capture carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas or ambient air and release a concentrated stream for transportation, storage or industrial use.

Svante integrates these filters into rapid-cycle rotary contactor machines designed for continuous carbon capture within a compact equipment footprint. The filters move through adsorption and regeneration stages, with low-pressure steam used to release the captured carbon dioxide. Combining materials engineering with mechanical system design allows Svante to manufacture the separation technology as standardized filter modules and apply it across projects with different emissions profiles and site requirements.

For point-source applications, Svante’s work addresses post-combustion emissions from facilities producing cement, steel, hydrogen, pulp and paper and other industrial materials and energy products. The company also manufactures filters for direct air capture, where lower carbon-dioxide concentrations require different sorbent and process configurations. Across both areas, its engineering work spans sorbent performance, filter production, steam and heat management, process integration and long-term system operation.

In 2025, Svante commissioned its Redwood facility in Burnaby, British Columbia. The 141,000-square-foot site serves as the company’s global headquarters, R&D center and commercial manufacturing facility for carbon-capture and removal filters. Redwood brings material development, filter coating, assembly, testing and manufacturing scale-up into a common operation as Svante advances its technology into larger industrial projects.
