Aquatech has acquired the Oregon-based FTS H2O as part of its continued expansion into industrial water reuse, brine recovery, and zero liquid discharge technologies supporting manufacturing, energy, mining, and critical minerals processing markets. The addition of FTS H2O strengthens Aquatech’s capabilities in membrane-driven brine concentration, industrial wastewater treatment, produced water recycling, lithium processing, and seawater brine mining applications.

FTS H2O develops membrane-based brine concentration and resource recovery technologies designed for high-recovery industrial process applications. Its Oregon headquarters will become Aquatech’s global Center of Excellence for membrane-driven brine concentration and resource recovery technologies.

The combined portfolio includes osmotically assisted reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, and membrane brine crystallization systems designed for high-concentration industrial brine environments.

Among the technologies included is RecovOAR™, an osmotically assisted reverse osmosis platform designed to support energy-efficient concentration of highly saline brine streams across applications involving lithium processing, semiconductors, chemicals, produced water, and industrial water reuse. The technology is capable of concentrating brines significantly beyond conventional seawater salinity levels while supporting treatment of complex feed streams involving mixed salt compositions.

Zero liquid discharge and advanced brine concentration systems are receiving increased attention as industrial operators seek to improve water recovery rates, reduce environmental discharge volumes, and recover minerals and reusable process water from industrial wastewater streams.

“The FTS H2O team has built a well-deserved reputation as a true pioneer of high-recovery membrane processes with decades of experience, and we are delighted to welcome this world-class team to Aquatech. Together, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the process solutions that our customers need to deliver high-performance brine concentration and resource recovery at scale,” said Ravi Chidambaran, President & CTO at Aquatech.

The move also supports Aquatech’s broader strategy of combining water treatment, resource recovery, lithium refining, and membrane processing technologies into integrated industrial treatment platforms.

“Since Aquatech’s initial investment in FTS H2O in 2023, we have established a close and highly productive collaboration to embed our technologies into lithium processing, brine mining, produced water, as well as high-recovery water reuse & zero liquid discharge applications,” said Keith Lampi, Managing Director at FTS H2O. “We are looking forward to working within Aquatech to continue to push the limits of membrane brine concentration, and to commercialize new forward osmosis and membrane crystallization technologies.”

The combined technologies are expected to support modular and full-scale treatment systems serving industrial water reuse, lithium extraction, critical minerals processing, desalination, and wastewater management markets globally.
