MISUMI Group, Inc., global industry experts in digital manufacturing and mechanical component supply for industrial systems, has announced a strategic partnership with Oishii Farm Corporation to support the development of AI- and robotics-enabled vertical farming systems.

The agreement reflects a growing focus on sustainable agriculture and the role of advanced manufacturing technologies in supporting more resilient and efficient food production systems. Oishii operates indoor vertical farms in the United States and Japan, using controlled environments to produce crops while reducing reliance on traditional agricultural inputs.

Oishii’s farming systems integrate artificial intelligence and robotics to manage environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, lighting, and airflow, while also enabling automated harvesting. These technologies support consistent crop production and improved resource efficiency within controlled growing environments.

Through its U.S.-based subsidiary Fictiv, MISUMI supplies mechanical components to Oishii’s Ametalas Farm operations. The partnership is intended to support system reliability and scalability as Oishii expands its vertical farming infrastructure.

As part of the agreement, the companies will collaborate on research and development, combining MISUMI’s expertise in standardized components and digital manufacturing with Oishii’s experience in smart agriculture systems. The goal is to support the development of components and systems tailored for agricultural automation.

The partnership is positioned within a broader shift toward agritech adoption. The global food system continues to face challenges related to climate variability, resource constraints, and labor shortages, driving increased interest in technologies that improve productivity and supply stability.

Automation enabled by AI, robotics, and IoT is supporting more efficient agricultural operations, particularly in developed markets where labor availability and land use constraints are significant. Vertical farming and controlled environment agriculture are emerging as key approaches for addressing these challenges while reducing environmental impact.

MISUMI’s investment in Oishii reflects a strategic move into high-growth sectors where digital manufacturing capabilities can support new applications. By integrating digital tools across design, procurement, and production processes, MISUMI is extending its role beyond traditional manufacturing supply into enabling next-generation industrial systems.
